Doc’s Favorite Variety Rewards Apps

I’ve been writing about my favorite rewards apps and earning routines for just a few years. However, I’ve been using some of these variety rewards apps, like MyPoints for almost 20 years. Sometimes friends tease me about spending so much time earning pennies, but pennies add up to dollars, and I really don’t spend that much time. If everyone traded half of their social media time for earning with rewards apps, we would all have a few extra bucks to spend every month.

In this post, I’m sharing tips for rewards apps that I call “variety” rewards apps because you can earn rewards by completing different types of tasks like answering a daily poll, clicking offers, or clicking on e-mails. For details on apps that specialize in specific tasks check out my latest posts about other ways to earn such as watching videos or taking surveys listed at the end of this post.

Variety Rewards Apps

MyPoints – The Original Rakuten, But Better

I joined MyPoints on 8/27/2004. Yes, that’s 19 years ago! I love MyPoints because there are several ways that you can earn money such as click-to-shop (like Rakuten), surveys, watching ads, and more.

Tips for making MyPoints worth your time:

  • Check your e-mail! Click on MyPoints Bonus Mail to earn points per click.
  • Find low-point click ads on offer pages.
  • Focus on surveys that are 10 minutes or less and at least 100 points.
    • You can earn points for non-qualifying surveys too.
  • Use MyPoints click-to-shop to buy things that you normally buy online.
    • They will have specials. I waited to sign up for Hulu until they were offering 5,000 points.
  • Scan receipts for a few points. Look for promotional items to earn bonuses.
  • Take advantage of the Daily 5, Point Perks, and Monthly Bonuses. Those are smaller rewards, but they add up and take only a few seconds of your time.
    • When completing the Daily 5, you can earn credit for “attempting a survey” by answering 10 “about me” questions. This is often faster than taking the “qualification” questions on a survey.

Point conversion: 160 points = $1.00

If MyPoints sounds like something that you would like to try, click here! We will both earn bonus points when you use my link.

Swagbucks – MyPoints Fraternal Twin

Swagbucks

Swagbucks came along a few years after MyPoints. It takes a bit longer to earn points, but it’s almost exactly the same as MyPoints. There are a couple features that set it apart. Anyhow, Swagbucks, owned by Prodege, acquired MyPoints in 2016, so they’re basically the same site, but you can earn on both. That means more rewards!

Unlike MyPoints, Swagbucks doesn’t have bonus e-mails, but the rest of the tips are the same as above. One additional perk that Swagbucks has is a Daily Trivia game, part of the Daily List, that can be played with another Prodege app.

Point conversion: 100 points = $1.00

If Swagbucks sounds like something that you would like to try, click here! We will both earn bonus points when you use my link.

Also, if you add their SwagButton to get extra points and coupon codes while shopping online, we’ll both get extra points.

InboxDollars Which came first — Swagbucks or InboxDollars?

Prodege acquired InboxDollars a few years ago. There were significant improvements with that acquisition, so if you tried InboxDollars before and left (like I did), you might want to give it a second chance.

Tips for earning with little effort on InboxDollars:

  • Click on Paid E-mails to earn Scratch & Win progress.
  • Complete the Daily 5 list to earn at least 5 cents a day.
  • Build Scratch & Win progress, to play a scratch-off game, by completing the Learn & Earn each day.
  • Play built-in games to earn Scratch & Win progress.

If you have the time, InboxDollars is worth adding to supplement your MyPoints and Swagbucks earnings. If you want to give InboxDollars a try, click here to use my link, and we’ll both earn bonus rewards.

Upromise– for College Students & Everyone

My account transactions on Upromise only go back to 2010, but I’m pretty sure I joined before that. Upromise was originally just a cashback site set up to help families save for college. However, within the last few years, Upromise was purchased by Prodege and now has many features that are offered on Swagbucks, MyPoints, and InboxDollars.

Tips for earning with little effort on UPromise:

  • Link your credit cards to Upromise Dining and earn instantly any time you dine at the restaurants on their list.
  • Complete the Daily To-Do List. You only have to complete three simple tasks, in about 10 seconds, to earn 10 cents!
  • Look for high-paying offers that require little effort. For example, I signed up for an online credit union to transfer all of my rebate PayPal earnings to because I don’t want PayPal or rebate sites to have access to my main checking account. I got $50 cashback on InboxDollars for doing so!

If UPromise sounds like something that you would like to try, click here! We will both earn bonus points when you use my link.

Miles App — Get Paid for Driving (and walking)!

Miles tracks everywhere that you drive and walk. You basically earn points for moving. If you are in constant motion, you definitely need this app. It doesn’t burn battery power as you would think. Miles isn’t my preferred app for taking surveys or earning cashback, but you can earn miles for those tasks too.

Tips for Miles App:

  • Recently, Miles added Daily Trivia questions that you can answer to earn extra miles. Answer them everyday to earn bonus questions.
  • When redeeming rewards, many of the gift cards are often sold out, but the 25 cent and 50 cent Amazon gift cards are almost always available. I buy a few of those a month. That adds up. Plus, you can earn bonus miles for spending miles.
  • The point conversion isn’t great on this app, but the the earning is so passive, no one should complain.

Point conversion: 1000 points = $0.50

Instant Gift Cards –Another Variety Rewards Site worth mentioning.

There is not anything “instant” about earning on this site, but there are several options for earning points such as playing videos or taking surveys. I use this site as a back up when I run out of tasks on the Prodege sites. It’s worth checking out if you have some spare time. Lootup is a similar site that I also use as a back up to the Prodege sites.
